TCG was founded in New York in 1989 by Dr. Purnendu Chatterjee. Dr. Chatterjee has more than 37 years of experience in public equity investments, and also has substantial experience in leveraged acquisitions of operating companies and private equity transactions. Under his direction, TCG has compiled a significant investment record in India.
From 1986 to 2000, Dr. Chatterjee was closely associated with Soros Fund Management, where he served as investment advisor to various entities in the Quantum Group of Funds and other collective investment vehicles sponsored or advised by George Soros and his associates. From 1994 through 1997, Dr. Chatterjee acted as an advisor to Quantum Soros India and in this capacity managed a portfolio of Indian public equity securities. Dr. Chatterjee was a partner at McKinsey & Company Inc., New York.
